I really enjoyed the b2c programme. I learned alot of stuff and met some new people. It was a nice change from school but we were still learning at the same time. Before this week i didnt know how to use audacity or windows movie maker but im using them at home now so i can upload videos to youtube. I hope i get called back during the year because this really was a great experience.

Our experience with the Danish:
Our group decided we would ask the Danish about how their school worked and how sexuality in their country was different, during our chat, we found out a lot about their school back home.
We learned that when the Danish students go to a new classroom, they may paint the walls of that room to suit themselves. Each room has a unique painted and patterned wall contained graffiti and tags. Also, their school back home hosts partys in their school canteen, where the students may drink alcohol and smoke. Students at their school are allowed to use their mobile phones during lunch and don't have to wear a uniform (though they said they'd like to). Their school is a democratic school, everything must be agreed by vote only. They were surprised to hear about our all boys/all girls schools and our age of consent for alcohol.
We learned from one of the Danish students that Fanta orange, contains fish, american beef burgers contain plastic and there;s corn in coca cola?

Our experience on the Bridge to College programme
The week as a whole was a great experience. It was quite different working in groups involving both genders as you got two opinions completely different. Through many of these projects both opinions combined and produced good assignments that the whole group enjoyed making, producing and showing to the other teams.
Throughout the week we learned a lot of new skills, such as Audacity and Windows Movie Maker, improved our communication and our teamwork.
It was also very different working in groups to the way we work in school. We get to voice our opinions more and talk to each other.
Overall the week was an amazing way to learn new skills and was thoroughly enjoyable. We have also met some new friends and the group is less nervous talking to each other than at the start of the week

The Great Danes
On Thursday, the plan for the day completely changed. At around half two, a group of tenth grade Danish students arrived at The Oriel House. Instead of working on computers, the workshop turned into a full blown discussion on educational differences between the two countries, including single sex schools and exams. It is amazing how much they differ even though we are in the same continent.
Two students from the Danish school stood up to answer questions from the Irish students and vice-versa. Both were very well represented and interesting. The students then stayed to watch the groups animations we made for the day and they really seemed to enjoy them.
The Danish students will once again be returning on Friday to take part in the workshop. It will be very interesting to see how it goes.

Wednesday: Advertising
On Wednesday we visited the "Green Machine" exhibition in the Science Gallery. We had to come with an idea on how to reduce fossil fuels use. As a team we decided to create a bike sinmilar to a car to make cycling more attractive to commuters. We thought it would be a good idea to put speakers into a comfy seat, and insert an mp3 player dock.
As part of this assignment we had to create a poster, a radio advertisement and a tv advertisement. Jamie and Dillon worked on the poster, Erica and Kelly on the tv advertisement and Sofwat provided the voice to our radio advertisement.
Unfortunately the idea was alredy taken!

Day 1:
On the first day of the bridge to college programme we were put into groups and were assigned a task. Our task was to make a short video which would give people an idea of the groups members.
For the video we had to get a personal picture of each member and also a group photo.
Our group tried to make our video funny but serious at the same time.
The video we created was a parody of the movie Spy Kids. What our group succeded in was good communication, organisation and also teamwork.
What we could have worked on was time management because we took 15 minutes longer than everyone else to finish our video.
